Garudan and Maharaja – Redefines Kollywood 2024

In 2024, the Kollywood film industry had a lackluster year, with no new releases making a significant impact either in terms of content or at the box office. Recently, the Malayalam film Manjummel Boys and the 20-year-old re-release of Gilli were well-received, however, the new releases in Kollywood failed to have a substantial impact. Aranmani 4, released in early May, was a good commercial flick, having a decent run in theaters. However, audiences were still waiting for a standout film from Kollywood.

Garudan

Garudan, which was released on May 31, turned out to be an excellent rural action film with a strong emotional connection and message. Fim revolves around the friendship , loyalty , betrayal and realisation of a innocent common man. While the story is not that new, the depth of the characters and the screenplay made the film highly impactful. Director Durai Senthil Kumar deserves commendation for sticking to the film’s theme and content. Rather than just focusing on protagonist and antagonist, there are many important characters , providing a proper track for everyone gives a balanced viewing experience as it explores the emotions of various characters throughout the film and creates a impact.

Maharaja

On June 14, Maharaja was released, offering a compelling action thriller with a gripping screenplay that also addresses the issue of women’s harassment. Film is an out and out revenge of a father with unexpected twists and turns. This film marked Vijay Sethupathi’s 50th film and stands as a significant milestone in his career, providing him with ample opportunity to showcase both his performance skills and elevate his mass appeal. Director Nithilan Swaminathan deserves praise for executing the film with a gripping screenplay and editing, keeping the suspense high until the end while also creating a strong emotional impact.

Summary

Both films offer a worth watching experience with a neat narration , screenplay and conveys emotions to audience . It should be noted that both films contain a significant amount of violence, making them unsuitable for children, but providing a perfect experience for avid cinema enthusiasts.

DON – WI Review

DON is feel good entertainer with all commercial elements , along with a emotional & sentimental plot taking the film to an different phase .

Plot

Chakkaravarthy , an student who does not have interests in studying , wishes to find out what is he interested and passionate about . After being forced by his father (Samuthirakani) to study engineering , takes steps on exploring his interests despite facing pressure from his strict college discipline in-charge turned principal (SJ Suriya) and how things goes on is the storyline

WOW Elements

Film begins as a typical Siva Karthikeyan film with all the fun elements with himself playing school and college goer. Being a student character , it could have been written with a slightly down playing role for SK at parts which would have given even a bigger reach for Chakkaravarthy. The film begins with a commercial note , travels on the same phase and takes an emotional elevation on the later part. May be the commercial way of conveying the story at the earlier part would be odd for a set of audience and a entertaining one for the rest , but director stands tall with summing up all the contents conveyed on earlier parts with emotional touches on later part , that is the soul and savior of the film. The characters played by Samuthirakani and SJ Surya are the major highlights of the film. Being an debutant , director needs to be appreciated for handling the emotional and sentimental parts on a feel good way.

BRAND SK

This film is a unavoidable one at SK’s career , as it has all kind of elevations for SK to perform let it be fun , romance , emotions and SK has also uplifted his performance on handling emotional scenes . Another important factor is the plot and the way the film is conveyed , it has all the elements for audience from 6 to 60 to look up. The Brand SK is getting even stronger with this film.

Message & Verdict

Film strongly conveys three important messages related to a youngster’s life. One being the scarifies and love of a Father / Parents , showing the goodness of the Teachers and it also speaks on interests , wishes and passion of an youngster rather than just forcing him in doing the routine stuffs. Even though the film has some average moments , director has matched up everything with emotional touches and gets all the appreciation for conveying one powerful message ” Celebrate your parents when they are with you “.

Hey Sinamika – WI Review

Hey Sinamika is a feel good entertainer with lots of fun , love and emotions. The major highlight of the film is the plot which gives importance to all the three lead roles Dulquer Salmaan , Kajal Agarwal and Aditi Rao.

Storyline

Yaazhan, a House Husband and Mouna , a working woman are married couples , despite being a love marriage and both having affection on each other, Mouna feels bored and fed up with certain approaches of Yaazhan and wishes to live alone with her own space. Mouna tries to rope in Malar , a psychologist with her husband so that she can take divorce citing infidelity. Malar who already does not have trust over any men and hates men , just tries to help out Mouna . Unfortunately Malar finds the good natures of Yaazhan, chances her mindset regarding men and falls in love with Yaazhan, which back fires Mouna who slowly starts realizing on her relationship with Yaazhan .

WOW Elements

Though there are few artificial cinematic touches then and there to establish the story, director has tried her best to convey the emotions and feelings of three different character and scores on the same especially in the climax parts. At a point , both the female characters goes to certain extent for holding their love towards Yazhaan and the film makers conveyed those emotions as it is without adding any special cushion to glorify particular character. Kudos to the director for handling the emotions on a right way on her directional debut.

Message & Verdict

Film strongly speaks on contrast on thoughts and tastes between couples and how things should be sorted out within themselves. Overall , Its a worthy watch if you are looking for a fun filled entertainer along with emotions at parts. If you are into the genre which film revolves around , Yaazhan, Mouna and Malar will be remembered for sure.

No One Can Be Forced To Undergo COVID-19 Vaccinations – Says Supreme Court

No individual can be forced to take the vaccine, the Supreme Court said on this Monday , May 2 , 2022 in a decision on India’s Covid vaccine policy, also directing the central government to publish reports on the adverse effects of vaccination.

“Bodily integrity is protected under the law and nobody can be forced to be vaccinated,” the Supreme Court said. The court asserted, however, that “certain limitations on individual rights” could be imposed in the interest of community health. “Barring Covid-appropriate behavior, we suggest no curbs on unvaccinated individuals in access to public places, services and resources if cases are low,” the Supreme Court said.

The bench said that no data has been placed by the Union of India or the States controverting the material placed by the petitioner in the form of emerging scientific opinion which appears to indicate that the risk of transmission of the virus from unvaccinated individuals is almost on par with that from vaccinated persons.

“Till the infection rate remains low and any new development or research finding emerges which provides due justification to impose reasonable and proportionate restrictions on the rights of unvaccinated individuals, we suggest that all authorities in this country, including private organisations and educational institutions, review the relevant orders and instructions imposing restrictions on unvaccinated individuals in terms of access to public places, services and resources, if not already recalled,” the bench said.

KGF 2 – The KGF Franchise creates HISTORY

KGF Chapter 2 , which has already created its own fan base with its earlier part , meets fans expectations and turned out as a box office monster as it is enjoyed by all regions of audience.

THE KGF FRANCHISE

Though the film has high level of heroism , the team has made their best ground works to convince with an interesting screenplay , editing , characterizations and making . Conveying the story with an non linear editing makes it very crispy and interesting. An set of audience may not prefer too much of commercial and heroic films but KGF is made in a way which tries to convince those set of audience and they have also almost achieved the same which is the major reason for its huge reach even for all the dubbed versions matching with the original version.

With KGF Chapter 1 already conveying what is KGF series is all about and have already created its own fanbase , the director and team has given their 100% effort to make KGF Chapter 2 even more mighty and engaging than its preceding part. Thus it has worked out very well with the audience as they already know what to expect from the film and the team given their best to justify the series more than its earlier part. KGF series is a kind of film , which majorly works for a theatrical watch.

Team has reprised important background scores , screenplay flow and other stuffs from KGF 1 which helps a lot for audience to get into the films mood. For some characters and story line , makers had many knots untied even on Chapter 1 , which were framed and connected very well with Chapter 2 , now they have again followed the same with KGF 2. Looks like KGF 3 is on cards.

THE KGF Team

One small example to mention the dedication of the director Prashanth Neel and the entire team is TOOFAN song. Major audio tracks would sound much stronger but the makers would fail to utilize the 100% potential of the song through its visualization. Here the makers have given their best to film each second of the song as per the tempo and lyrics , which also tells the story of KGF 1 and conveys the emotions to the audience. The team has worked with the same intention for the entire 2hours 48minutes runtime of the film.

SALAAM ROCKY BHAI

Just on seeing some mass elevation scenes especially the police station scene and looking on audience accepting and celebrating Rocky Bhai , it was relatable with our very own Baasha which was also accepted by all set of people. Because , an mass heroic character who is being accepted by a wide range of audience never happens easily , Rocky is one its kind.

BOXOFFICE MONSTER

With KGF 2 doing extraordinary business on all the versions , the film is also creating a new history on Kollywood. The film being clashed with one of the top most hero #Vijay’s Beast , has managed to get more shows on various theaters across TN after an extraordinary reviews on Day 1. Due to the BO clash at TN , as Beast is already running with regular shows , KGF 2 is scheduled on non prime timings and surprisingly those are all packed houses, KGF2 happens to be the first film in TN to get 1am , 4am shows scheduled on various theaters even on week days post the releasing week / weekend.
