Chennai Girls Plan For Cancer Patients

A group of Chennai girls planning hair donation for wigs to cancer patients.Cancer patients will lose their hair during the treatments. The students from WCC (Women’s Christian college) got the innovative idea from an American organization. A final year student Renne Saradha said “We were looking up for initiatives that will directly reach cancer affected patients especially children and women. We firmed up our idea after visiting the world famous Adyar Cancer Institute in Chennai. In our interactions with the doctors at the Cancer Institute we realized that there are requirements for at least 100 wigs per month and the hair would have to be a minimum of 10 inches long.We have tied up Green Trends Salon, one of the leading salons in the city for this endeavour. The staff of the salon will visit every day during the entire month of February where the campaign will be carried out for cutting and saving the hair ”                                                                       “The making cost of a wig
is Rs.3,000 and it costs anywhere
between Rs.8,000 to Rs.25,000 and we are searching sponsors for this. There are some cancer patients not using wigs due to lack of awareness and cost. It’s a
wonderful pilot iniative.” she said to India today
