Students strike in FTII for Gajendra Chauhan appointment
Mr. Gajendra Chauhan was appointed as the chairman of the premier Film institute of the country – FTII Pune. Ever since the appointment, students rose in protest against the appointment. They didn’t consider him as an artistic a film related person to be appointed to that position.
The students union in FTII united the opposition force and the vigour of the strike rose still more. They attribute the fact that previous chairmen were Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Shyam Benegal, Girish Karnad etc. But on the other hand, Gajendra Chauhan has neither contributed such artistic oeuvre nor participated in such efforts.
They think of this appointment as a political infringement in the FTII campus and as a measure to censor and instill the beliefs of the ruling party onto the college premises and its students.
